Eveyone's Talking About Upcycling, Salvage, Vintage & Reclaimed For 2016

Eveyone's Talking About Upcycling, Salvage, Vintage & Reclaimed For 2016

We're proud to be leading the Upcycling trend with high quality, sophisticated products. It's exciting to see the movement picking up steam in Toronto. Here are some folks who have recently featured our work.

house porn.ca

We love scoping out design blogs for inspiration and trends. Houseporn.ca is a favourite that we return to for inspiration from other Canadian designers and manufacturers. Apparently the affection goes both ways as houseporn recently published a lovely feature on our product line. We couldn't be more thrilled to rank among their selected designs, thanks houseporn! Check out the full post here.

mr.loft

It's no secret that our light industrial aesthetic is perfect for any Toronto Loft space, luckily the folks at Mr. Loft think so too. Take a look at Mr Loft's recommendations for loft design in 2016 and while you're there you can scout out some of the coolest places to live in the city. Thanks for the shoutout Mr. Loft.

furnex

And our friends at Furnex wrote a blog post about our beginnings and our products that customers can expect to find through their platform. The burgeoning online community for upscale furniture resale has taken off in the last few months and we are proud to have been one of the first re-sellers on the site, which is chalk-full of quality finds. Check out their blog for spotlights on new vendors, and of course to read up on our encounter with charming co-founder Francis Ayling!

The Story Of Our Iconic Toronto Harbour Shelving Units

The Story Of Our Iconic Toronto Harbour Shelving Units

These gorgeous Toronto harbour shelving Units are made from reclaimed hemlock from the old Queen's Wharf Harbourfront. This is wood that has served an important purpose in the development our city for well over a century. In fact, Queen's Warf hemlock could date as far back as 1730, and pieces of the harbour continue to be dredged up to this day by city planners to make way for new developments. Fortunately, there are folks out there like our friends at Canadian Salvage Timber who take the time to salvage these relics and offer it up to makers.

The Shelves are nestled between the ends of a more easily recognizable piece of Toronto history. Iconic cast iron radiators which have been used to heat homes in Toronto for almost 100 years are the solider-like pillars of this product. They serve as a reminder of a time when even the most utilitarian fixtures featured high-style design and fine craftsmanship. We aim to celebrate their rich history and pleasing aesthetic by making them a focal point of the unit.

This product line is a functional representation of Toronto’s rich history of design and infrastructure. The natural cool colouring of the hemlock, paired with the stripped cast iron makes a bold, raw aesthetic that will be at home among tradition furniture or in a modern contemporary space. Contact us for a quote on custom dimensions to suit your space.

Bath Tub Chairs

These brilliant chairs have been cut from a cast iron bathtub made in 1948. They’ve been sandblasted, primed and powdercoated to return them to their iconic colour and for ultimate protection so these chairs are suitable for indoor or outdoor use. The hairpin legs have been formed from scrap rebar, powdercoated in satin black and fitted with leather pads so protect your floors. These are envy of all other chairs, and your friends will be surprised by just how comfortable they are   unique chairs, industrial design, bathtub chairs, toronto IMG_6590unique chairs, industrial design, bathtub chairs, torontounique chairs, industrial design, bathtub chairs, torontoIMG_6609unique table, industrial design, salvaged oak, toronto

A contrasting table was made from the profiles of the bath tub and a discarded oak kitchen table. The tub profiles have been sandblasted and then restored to their classic colour through powdercoating for ultimate protection and fitted with leather feet. The table top has been beautifully refinished and stained for a wonderfully unique piece of craftsmanship.
